About	March 6, 1953 to February 22, 2013 Russell graduated from La Porte High School in 1971, and later attended East Central State in Ada, Oklahoma and Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas. He and his brother, Mabe, owned and operated a Shell service station in Dayton, Texas. He also worked at Barbors cut port. He was a long time member of the Missouri Street Church of Christ, past Master of La Porte Masonic Lodge #857 AF&AM, on the Morgan’s’ Point City Council from 1986-1992, Morgan’s Point Mayor from 1992-2003, past President of Harris County Mayors & Council Association, and past President and very active for years with Bulldog Booster Club. He was married to Angie Rosenbalm (LP '74) for 38 years. She was very active in the Morgan's Point Planning and Zoning committee. She passed away on May 10, 2020. He is survived by his children Jason Applebe and wife Yvonne, Jared Applebe, Jamison Applebe, Jordan Applebe, and also Jordan Mason, siblings Colleen Hicks and husband Michael, Mabe Applebe, grandchildren Madison, Jackson and Joshua. There is a park in Morgans Point named after Russell and all alumni should visit it.
