| About Me | I am a wife, step-mom, sister, daughter and friend. I started JKessel Design as a side business about 4 years ago, only focusing on painting, photography and art. About 3 years ago I purchased my first sewing machine and starting sewing items for co-workers and online. After working for a company for 11.5 years, I was laid off in Oct. 2011. It was scary and exciting at the same time. It has given me a chance to pursue my dreams of opening a small business, JKessel Design. Something that I never would have been able to pull off without this “kick” in the butt. It gave me the strength to try. So that is what I am doing! I was married to my best friend and high school classmate on May 19, 2012. We were not high school sweethearts, but in July of 2007, our paths crossed again and we have been together since. I met his daughter Ms. R when she was 11 months old and she is now almost 7! They are best thing that ever happened to me. I learn so much from him and his daughter. When I lost my job, he asked me if I wanted to go after starting my business, supporting me 150%, helping me overcome challenges and being my shoulder to lean on. When I make a sale he is my biggest fan and gets as excited about it as I do! I have continued to strengthen my skills and try to learn as much as I can about everything related to my passion. In this, I pass this tradition with little Ms. R, I try to show her how there is beauty in everything, to look at items a bit differently. I teach her it is OK to not be perfect. I have learned that it’s the imperfections that make life beautiful. I opened a shop, right here in town with Tracy McElfresh. “Sew Dayton” which will be a fun sewing shop, giving lessons, doing custom orders and selling some choice items!! I like to call myself a “Jack of all, Master of None” I do dabble in a lot of different things, but to me that is the best way to learn, grow and blossom. I will eventually get to a Master of Some, but for now. I am happy as long as I can create beautiful, fun and high quality items for people to cherish and enjoy. I love seeing smiles from my customers, I love hearing how the clutch they gave as a gift to their best friend was her favorite gift, or the print was perfect for their nursery. If I am not seeing people smile then I am doing something wrong or need to change something. So far, all smiles which in turns makes me the luckiest girl ali...(read more) |
