Dick was the oldest son with two younger brothers and a sister. He was really smart as a National Merit Finalist went to Dartmouth where I visited him and later Vanderbilt Law School. Won a State Title in Public Speaking.
In our Junior year, we had Jerry Graham as our Civics teacher. This was 1960 and the Presidential Election year between Nixon and Kennedy. On a dare, Dick and I smuggled our way up to the speakers platform to stand next to Richard Nixon at the Courthouse to watch him give his stump speech. We were the first to congratulate Nixon after his speech. Jerry Graham was baffled that we could con our way to the Speaker.
