Gary was born September 12, 1936 in Lynn, Alabama to Arlie and Pearl Gaut. Arlie died in an industrial accident in 1940 leaving pearl Gary and his two siblings Barbara and Ronald. Pearl married F.L. Swindle 2 years later who became "daddy" to those three children. The family welcomed Gayle a year later. His father's business required a move to Mississippi and then to Kentwood, Louisiana where Gary grew up and graduated from High School. He married Kaye Barnette in 1955 and they had two children Deborah in 1956 and Gary Jr. in 1962. Gary graduated from Mississippi State University in 1967 and began a career with the Air Force Audit Agency at Lackland AFB followed by assignments in England, Florida, Virginia, Southern California and in 1996, Randolf AFB where he retired in 1999. Gary was an active member of AHUMC, singing in the sanctuary choir, Joy singers and as a member of the open door class. Gary enjoyed his retirement immencely. Music was a huge part of Gary's life. In addition to singing in church he sang with the Chordsmen barber shop singers, the San Antonio Symphony Master Singers. He also played Baritone Horn in the Beethoven Band and church combo. His was much loved and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
