In April 1969, Lou married her teenage sweetheart Max Tucker whom she started dating in Jr. High School. They went on to have two children. Following graduation, she achieved a lifelong dream of being a teacher by getting a teaching degree in elementary education at Eastern Washington University and her master’s degree in education from Washington State University. Over 30 years, she mentored 900 students while teaching at Ridgeview Elementary until she retired in 2011. She had a wonderful reputation with her students and her peers doing the job she dreamed of.
In retirement, Lou enjoyed family gatherings, spent time fishing, and traveling with her husband to Mexico and Alaska. Family and friends were especially important to her, and she poured into the lives of her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends. She never forgot a birthday, and at Christmas was known for her funny and poetic Christmas letters sent to hundreds of friends and family. Lou passed away on August 25, 2024, after a long fight with Parkinson's.
