About | ***** VIETNAM VETERAN ***** Ernest R Pike, a Buffalo Native and retired Bethlehem Steel Millwright, died Oct 9, 2002, in Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Fla., after a four-year battle with lung cancer. He was 57. Surviving are his wife, Ann Doraski, a daughter, Wendy Ann Chase of Buffalo; three sons, Ernest F. of Niagara Falls, and William E and Robert, both of Eustis; and four grandchildren. He was a 1964 graduate of Kenmore West High School. From 1966 to 1970, he served in the Marines and saw duty in the Vietnam War in a tank battalion of the 3rd Marine Division. Pike worked as a class A-1 millwright for Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna for 20 years. A year after his marriage in 1993 they moved to Eustis, Fla., and lived there in a house that Pike designed. He took a job as the plant engineer for American Douglas Metal in Orlando, Fla., and worked there until his death. Pike was a Civil War history buff and enjoyed studying the Battle of Gettysburg and collecting books about the war. He was a member of Post 10474 Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Mount Plymouth, Fla., the American Legion in Eustis and the Disabled American Veterans. Pike was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mount Dora, Fla., where he was involved in the church's Scripture study program. |
Events | A Memorial Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 263 Claremont Ave, Town of Tonawanda. Burial was in Seneca Cemetery, Eustis. |
