Big Wheelie has lost his battle with the Covid virus. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. In addition to being his manager for the past 35 years Chuck was one of my best friends and was always there for me. Rest In Peace my friend
Events (WIVB)-The popular lead singer of Buffalo-based band Big Wheelie and the Hubcaps has died following a several-week battle with coronavirus.
Chuck Vicario, better known as Big Wheelie, performed 50’s rock and roll locally and around the world for more than 40 years.
Big Wheelie played his first major sold-out show at the AUD in 1972 and was inducted into the buffalo music hall of fame in 1985. His wife Candi also had coronavirus and is getting better.
She said a lesser-known fact about Big Wheelie is that he was a man of faith, who enjoyed performing Elvis Presley’s rendition of “I believe” at churches.
“Over the years, he would go to churches and sing and talk to the congregation about God. He’s done that all over Western New York. He’s a member of Riverside Baptist Church.”
Big Wheelie survived a devastating motorcycle crash in 2012 on his way to the yearly M-&-T Plaza event series. His wife said outside of that tragedy, he played the annual local concert every year for more than 40 years.
