John Parongao Jr.
Class of 1967
Navy, 20+ Years
Aviation Electronics Technician. As I progressed up the ranks, I moved into Aircraft Maintenance as the squadron maintenance chief. My service was mainly on the West Coast and far east, with deployments to Yankee Station off the coast of Vietnam, and four deplyments to the Persian Gulf. I also did a five year tour as an electronics instructor, teaching radar, navigation, and communications systems utilized in various Naval aircrafts. The last 10 years of my Navy tour was in the Command Master Chief program. I did CMC tours with an S-3 Viking squadron, Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, California, Navy Recruiting District Albuquerque, New Mexico, and finally with Helicopter Anti-submarine squadron 14 deployed with Carrier Air Group Five aboard the USS Independence and USS Kitty Hawk while these carriers were forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
I went to boot camp in June 1967 and retired in May 2000. Yep, 33 years of serving my country and proud of it. I will add that I got promoted to Master Chief (E-9) in less than 18 years.
