About	PATTEN - James L. Howes, 54, died April 7, 2006, with his family at his side, at his home. He was born March 25, 1952, in Sherman, the son of Philip and Marge (Gilman) Howes. "Jim's grandchildren were his life." He was a scoutmaster for several years and was retired from Great Northern Paper Co. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Shirley (Sprague) Howes of Patten; four children, Bradley Howes and his companion, Kylie, of Bangor, Michael Howes and his companion, Sarah, of Patten, David and his wife, Dawn Fitzgerald, of Massachusetts and Laurie and her husband, Wade Long, of Medway; 13 grandchildren and several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls where funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday with Donis Willigar Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Patten Cemetery.
