Marko Sakari Liias, born July 17, 1981, in Edmonds, Washington, is an American politician and proud alumni of Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, Washington. He is a Democratic member of the Washington State Senate, where he has been serving the 21st legislative district since 2014. Before his tenure in the Senate, Liias was a member of the Washington House of Representatives from 2008 to 2014.

Liias' education journey continued after Kamiak High School when he attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he led the Georgetown University College Democrats. His studies and interests also took him abroad to Prague, Czech Republic for a semester. Furthermore, he has completed graduate courses in public administration at the University of Washington in Seattle. In 2009, he completed a program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government as a David Bohnett LGBTQ Victory Institute Leadership Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Before his political career took off at the state level, Liias served on the Mukilteo City Council at the age of 24, commencing his tenure in November 2005. He had earlier served on the Snohomish County Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board and the Snohomish County Board of Equalization. After Rep. Brian Sullivan ascended to the Snohomish County Council in 2007, Liias was chosen to fill the vacant seat in the Washington State Legislature. During his tenure in the legislature, he was the Vice Chair of the House Transportation Committee and served on several other committees.
