SM2 (Signalman 2nd class E-5) Served 2 years on the USS Lyman K. Swenson, DD-729 (Destroyer) based out of San Diego. Made 2 WesPac Cruises. Visited Guam, Japan, Phillipines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Spent 9 months (1968) in the Tonkin Gulf, as our ship provided fire support to the troops on land. Volunteered to serve another year (1969-1970) in 'Nam serving on the Mekong Delta, Dong Tam, Tay Ninh, Ben Keo and finally Saigon my last two months as a Shore Patrol Officer at the Annapolis BEQ. Had fun but survived. Unfortunately not so for my two bruddahs/classmates Leonard Macquillan and Rodney Maunakea, KIA. May they rest in peace!

Joined the National Guard 29th Brigade 487th Artillery A Battery in 1966 and got activated in 1968 to the 25th Brigade for one year and latter want to the 23rd infantry brigade in Vietnam in Chu lai in 1989. Got injured and sent to Japan for my operation. I got sent home from Japan after my recovery time. I had a good time in Japan.

Our Kaimuki High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done! Not everyone gets to come home for the holidays and we want our Kaimuki High School Military to know that they are loved and appreciated.
