| About Me | I am a painter in acrylics and oils. My paintings are abstract using mixed medium. I paint in a way to not be literal. My paintings are full of color and can be described as having a positive energy. I am also an art teacher in my own studio. I teach my students how to paint with acrylics or oils, but the most important thing I teach them is the process of developing their own style - not to copy someone elses work unless they are learning from the Old Masters. I also help them with drawing and composition. It is a real pleasure to watch an artist grow. ABOUT THE ARTIST: I have been interested in art from an early age. In school, I would oftentimes spend my time doodling instead of listening to my teachers. Born in Dallas, Texas, I graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a degree in biology. After a hiatus of many years from art, I began studying art at the Arkansas Arts Center, Museum School, in March 2001. Since then I have taken numerous classes and workshops from professional artists. In the fall of 2007, I started taking studio art classes at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock - now I am a graduate student in Studio Art. One never stops learning (or growing) as an artist. MY ARTIST STATEMENT: My artwork is my way to self-expression. My artwork is free of the market and its influences - so, I can create and dedicate myself to growing as an artist. I paint. I create. I destroy. I recreate. I do so not to copy anyone else. I do not like art that looks too commercial or too perfect; it should have an edge to it. Maybe, that is why I like the abstract expressionists of the 1940s, such as Jackson Pollock, Arshile Gorky, Willem de Kooning and others; there was an edge or a roughness to their work. There is a rawness that is real and alive;- their emotions explode upon their canvasses. My artwork is one experiment after another. SOME OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS: Robert Motherwell Wassily Kandinsky Paul Gauguin Hans Hoffman Willem de Ko...(read more) |
