About Me	Newspaper reporter since graduation from UMass (1974). Started working part-time for the Springfield Union during junior of college. Have worked in newspapers in Massachusetts, Maine, New York, Virginia, Florida and Texas. Most recently (since 1996), reporter at The Lawrence Eagle-Tribune, where I was part of the team that won a Pultizer Prize (2003) for deadline reporting, coverage of tragic drowning of four boys in the Merrimack River in December 2002. In 2004, was was the lead reporter in paper's investigative series of auto insurance fraud, which received several state and national awards, including one from the Society of Professional Journalists that was presented at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Received pen from Massachusetts Gov. Romney for reporting on the fraud. Also recieved a pen from Florida Gov. Bob Graham in 1984 for series of articles on convicted felons in the classroom, which led to passage of law requiring criminal background checks on all teaching applicants. For three years, worked as the editor of The Nantucket Beacon, which won more press commendations than any New England weekly newspaper over that period.
