Dr. Lee Simmons, D.V.M.

Class of 1957

Dr. Lee Simmons, D.V.M., a Jones High School 1957 Graduate, is the director of the Omaha, Nebraska Henry Doorly Zoo and has been with them for over Forty Years. He graduated from Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine and is held in such high esteem; in 2007 OSU had a Dr. Lee Simmons Day. Omaha has a Dr. Lee Simmons Day and with the Governor issuing such a proclamation. He has gained international fame and his medical expertise for wild animal care and conservation is known throughout the world. He has directed the zoo to become one of the top animal research centers in the world.
He had very limited finances, having to work his way all through Pre-Vet at Central State College in Edmond, OK and then to Veterinary School at Oklahoma State University. He is a prime example of what a Jones High School graduate can obtain through education and hard work.
