About Me | After high school I went to work for UT Health Science Center in the Biochemistry dept., for 5 mos. Then worked for a temp service for a year. Worked for the Adult Probation Office in the Steno Pool. That was one of my favorite jobs cuz I was working with my Cousin Peggy. She called me one day and said "hey I'm gonna go apply at the APO you wanna go along?" And we both got hired. ha ha. Then I left that job to work for Nathan's Bexar Taxi Company as a Taxi Driver. (Yah I know). Did that for a couple years. Then gas prices got too high and business was bad so we started buying and selling small appliances and fixing them. Then we started selling used cars too. We did this at our apt until they got mad because we had alot of parking spaces taken up. We even went to Las Vegas to try and work there as a cab driver and me a waitress. Thought we'd get rich and come back after saving 10,000. That didn't work out so we came back home to Texas and got a little house at 1606 Pecan Valley and started buying and selling appliances and used cars. We worked hard, lived minimally but happy and saved up till we were able to go into business with our first carlot "The Tradin Post Auto Sales". That was in 1983. In 1985 we built a new house on 7 acres and 1987 we finally moved in. On Sept 10, 1989 we had Tiffany Darlene. And in 1991 we opened a Salvage Yard on Hwy 181 and moved our carlot to that location. I worked as the bookkeeper, accountant, payroll, sales, etc. On Jan 5, 1993 I had Ethan Chance, and my mom was in remission from cancer at that time. Mom came to live with us because she was so ill, going through chemo and then hope faded and we had Hospice come in. Lillian Marie Gentry Pochardt passed away Feb 28, 1995 at the age of 60. Then on Dec 2, 1995 I gave birth to my 3rd child Britny Lilli Marie (named her after my mom-the middle names). I kept working at the business but decided when Britny was about 2 yrs old it was time to stay home because I wanted to focus on homeschooling them. Alot of living and events went on, can't put it all in here. But some were happy, some sad, some exiting, some frightening. Yk-2, 911, a tornado took our back porch and broke a skylight in the living room and the kids and I were home. For years after that everytime it got windy and rained the Kids would run to the closet in my bedroom, with their most precious possessions, and it isn't a big closet. Everyone would call and say "are ya'll in the closet?" It was kinda funny. In 2002 my Dad became ill, got better and then relapsed. He had cancer all over and then on Feb 16, 2003 he passed away. I took my 3 children and a dog in a motor home to Minnesota so I could fulfill my Father's wishes for his final resting place next to his parents in Marshall MN. It was the first time I had driven by myself, other than the coast. We drove 3500 miles round trip, and it was the best thing I have ever done. It made me feel empowered and like I could do anything after that. My Daddy would have been proud, we saw a double rainbow coming out of Pipestone MN which is where he lived for a number of years when I was little and til 1975 when he moved to Texas. I believe the dbl rainbow was his way of saying "Good job Punkin". In Oct 2004 I filed for divorce and went to New Mexico with my Children and we went to the Hot Air Balloon Festival and the Indian culture museum. On Dec 31, 2004 I received a post card saying my marriage of 27 years was ended. I since have went to school to learn Medical Billing and Coding. That was a rip off/cldn't get a job doing that. Went to work with Peggy, we started our own house cleaning business. Then went to work as a kindergarden teacher at Agape, and Ethan and Britny went to school there. I also cleaned houses on the weekends. Ethan went to work at Lot A Parts/with his father. Britny went on to Gateway Christian school 2 yrs, then Brooks Academy then back to Gateway and now she is going to finish her schooling with Victory Learning Center. She should be graduating before long. I went to work at Star Shuttle Service, then to Visiting Angels, and then where I am now, West Communications. I am overwhelmed with maintaining 7 acres and this ageing house, and am anticipating moving within the next 1 or 2 year...(read more) |
