Tommy Woods Scholarship Fund

The Tommy Woods Scholarship Fund was established to award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior football player each year. The scholarship is named in honor of Tommy Woods, class of '66, who was injured playing football his senior year at Morehead. Tommy's neck was broken during the Martinsville football game, on Sept. 10, 1965. If the injury wasn't bad enough, Tommy nearly died while being treated after the initial injury. During his recovery, Tommy continued his studies with the assistance of a tutor. He returned to MHS in the winter of 1966 to inspire the basketball team to an undefeated state championship season with a 26-0 record. After graduating on time with the class of 1966, Tommy has continued to live in Eden. He is now retired as a dispatcher for the police department. Still paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, Tommy still exudes his youthful enthusiasm for baseball and all sports. His is a remarkable story of courage, perseverance, and determination in the face of very difficult circumstances, to say the least. To contribute to the scholarship fund, send your tax deductible contributions to:
