Mike had retired from the City of Orange, CA, as a fireman. He left behind his wife, Sue, and 3 children, and 4 grandchildren.
His memorial was in Orange, attended by over a hundred people, including active firefighters and so many friends, even friends from his childhood.

To the Shatzel Family,
I often wondered want happened to Michael and where life’s journey took him after graduation. Michael was my prom date! He was so cute and very handsome in his white dinner coat! I remember him as very and kind and shy. Our prom date was such a wonderful memory and I still have our picture! Michael was a true gentleman and had me home by my 12 pm curfew! I pray his family has comfort through their memories of Michael. God bless and may he rest in peace. Thank you too for his service as a fireman. With much affection, Marylee (Thomas ‘67) Waltz
