Events in life that shape what you are passionate about; the causes you support with your time, effort and money. Christian Belief Early in life, Jonathan and his wife Beth each accepted the saving grace offered by the heavenly Father through the sacrifice and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ. They strive to daily practice the presence of the Trinity in their lives as written in the Holy Bible, the inspired Word of God. They endeavor to honor God as a just, yet loving Father; Christ as their Savior and spiritual example; and the Holy Spirit as their strength and purifier. Jonathan’s upbringing was with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Pennsylvania (www.cmalliance.org). Beth’s upbringing was with the Conservative Baptist Church in Colorado. They have worked and played at various Christian camps (www.susque.org; www.summitgrovecamp.org; www.springcanyon.org; www.silvercliffranch.com; www.idrahaje.org; www.horncreek.org; www.younglife.org) and have been associated with a variety of youth organizations. These experiences and core beliefs have influenced their selection of many of the organizations they support and love. Ministry Watch (www.ministrywatch.org) has been an invaluable source of insights into these Christian organizations. Health and Research Let us celebrate the courage people demonstrate when faced with medical challenges in their lives and in the lives of their loved ones. Jonathan and Beth value organizations that offer excellent care for today’s health issues and offer the hope through research of a cure for tomorrow. As a young boy, Jonathan was diagnosed and successfully treated for childhood Leukemia. With the support of his family and the dedication of caregivers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (www.chop.edu), Jonathan was able to fight this cancer. Jonathan's family was welcomed at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (www.philarmh.org) where they found much needed rest. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) is one of Jonathan and Beth's favorite charities because the dedicated staff of St. Jude’s help children survive the battle. Cancer, diabetes and heart disease have touched the lives of many. With a family member that is a breast cancer survivor, Jonathan and Beth appreciate the blessing of early detection and quality care. Susan G. Komen for the Cure (www.komen.org) is an outstanding organization that is providing assistance to breast cancer research in the effort to save lives and provide quality care. Family members and friends deal with the constant battle to manage diabetes and heart disease. That is why Jonathan and Beth are proud to shine a light on the work of organizations such as the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) and the American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org). Jonathan and Beth have a courageous friend who deals daily with Muscular Dystrophy. Although her muscles and nerves are under assault, her spirit cannot be crushed! She also has a faithful assistance dog as her helper and trusted friend. Organizations such as Canine Partners of the Rockies (www.caninepartnersoftherockies.org) and Canine Companions for Independence (www.cci.org) graciously provide trained service dogs to our communities thus offering renewed independence to those with limited mobility. Jonathan and Beth also honor the memory of a friend who had Lou Gehrig's / ALS disease and they salute his faithful wife. Organizations such as Muscular Dystrophy Association (www.mda.org) are providing programs of education, research and medical services. May we always help loved ones to age with dignity. As their parents age, Jonathan and Beth are faced with the reality that younger members of society and organizations need to fill the gap between what the medical community provides and what families can afford. Resources needed are not only money and advocacy, but also the intangible need of additional attention, personal care and fostering self-worth. Child Adoption At a young age, Jonathan was blessed with adoption to a loving family. There are many children in our communities looking for loving foster or adoptive homes. Unfortunately, many times the cost to adopt is prohibitive to qualified prospective parents. Adoption agencies such as The Adoption Exchange (www.adoptex.org) and Bethany Christian Services (www.bethany.org) help children find adoptive families of their own and help perspective parents tackle the adoption process. Animal Rescue and Adoption Jonathan and Beth love their dogs, Perry and Tucker. Perry is the Golden Retriever / Lab Mix and affectionately nicknamed, Love Hog. He cannot get enough attention! Tucker is the Alaskan Husky and affectionately nicknamed, Little Guy, as the youngest in the pack. Adopted from a Colorado animal shelter, they give many hours of love and laughter. The dedicated volunteers of organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society (www.bestfriends.org) and National Mill Dog Rescue (www.milldogrescue.org) save hundreds of needy dogs every year. These organizations provide animals a sanctuary where they can heal if necessary while awaiting adoption. Please join in supporting animal rescue groups as they rescue, rehabilitate and find loving homes for homeless animals. Community Efforts Organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org), Food for the Hungry (www.fh.org) and Children’s Hunger Fund (www.childrenshungerfund.org) help those in desperate need by providing food, water, temporary shelter, medical care and other basic needs. They meet the critical needs of victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease and famine around the world. Everyone's dream is a place to call home! Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org) provides a home ownership program to families in need. Volunteers work alongside the family to build a new beginning. Organizations such as Habitat for Humanity provide the opportunity for safe, affordable homes. Another honorable mention goes to Homes for our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org), an organization that builds specially adapted homes for severly injured veterans. The Story Continues... This has been a glimpse into the faith, heart and motivation of Jonathan and Beth. A sampling of the causes and organizations that are important to them. Great sources of information that have been influential to Jonathan and Beth are: Charity Watch (www.charitywatch.org); GuideStar (www.guidestar.org); and Ministry Watch (www.ministrywatch.org). All three websites advocate non-profit organizations and aid in wise donor practices. Due diligence is recommended prior to contributing to any non-profit or charity. Do your homework. Visit websites. Ask questions of those you are considering contributing to. Choose the organizations that you wish to support long term for the greatest impact. May you give generously ...(read more) |
