Favorite School Memory Being part of the first JV basketball team to win for Jefferson Township High School. It was the 1966-67 winter and an 'away' game, and I think that the losing team was High Point. My teammates were Robin Ball, Billy Haggerty, Greg Warholak, Craig Wood, Russell Rupp and Bob Zeiler, and a few that I can't remember (sorry). The bus back to JTHS was filled with excitement and rejoicing. The varsity had won for the first time, too! Another favorite memory was the cafeteria's tuna fish sandwich on hard roll with poppy seeds for 25¢, and of course, after that, either a vanilla ice cream cone or an ice cream sandwich for a dime. As messy as the chocolate part of the ice cream sandwich would become in my fingers, after I had taken off the last bit of wrapper, it was worth it because the chocolate went great with the tuna fish! Even though I moved away from Jefferson Township HS in my junior year, and graduated from Ramsey HS (in northern New Jersey off of Route 17), I always considered JTHS 'my high school,' and hence, my being 'here' as an 'alumni.' Overall, being at JTHS was a great time in my life because of the friends I had––Robin Ball, Billy Haggerty, Greg Warholak, Bob Zeiler, Chris Farley and Jeff Dunney, and also, of one teacher in particular, who was a counselor, too: Mr. Hinkle, whom I think was 'passing through' on his way to becoming a psychologist. I found out recently (2012) that Jeff Dunney died on June 1st, 1981. He was only 29 years old...(read more)
About Me In 1971, when I was 20 years old, I began my spiritual journey, seeking to find out if God was real. On my way to the pool hall in Paramus, NJ that day, where I made my living shooting pool (even though I was going to college full time at Ramapo State), I looked up at the sky and said, 'God, if You're real I want to know, but if You're not, then this thing about Heaven and Hell doesn't mean anything, but if You are real than You're wise enough and strong enough to get in unto a guy like me.' During the next four years I got involved in Transcendental Meditation and then Zen Buddhism, which I thought were great, but in October 1975, I had an encounter with Jesus Christ in Tampa, Florida, fell in love with Him and was Born Again. Jesus was everything I had been looking for all my life, but I could never 'put my finger' on it. Growing up as a secular Jew I knew the name "Jesus," but it didn't have any meaning for me. A short time after I gave my life to Him I renounced both TM and Zen because I came to see them as dark counterfeits of The Real Thing (Jesus). Called by the Lord into the ministry, I spent four years in the Master of Divinity program at Oral Roberts University (earning an A- average), and one year in the Master of Science program at Oklahoma State University, in Marriage and Family Therapy (with an A average). I loved learning the things of the Lord and good grades 'just came naturally' because of it. I didn't get a degree from either of those two graduate schools, but that's another story that you can read about on my website, The Seed of Abraham at SeedofAbraham.net. There's a book I've written about many of my times of witnessing in Israel, where I lived with my wife Ruti for a total of 16 years, and I have my life story interspersed throughout the book. It's called SAM the Rock Thrower at http://seedofabraham.net/Sam-the-Rock-Thrower.pdf. After leaving Oral Roberts University in 1983, I established and led (was the pastor for 15 years for) the first Hebraic Perspective congregation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which was an assembly for Jews and Gentiles who believed in Yeshua (Jesus) and walked in Torah (the Law of Moses, as interpreted by Yeshua). We met for our worship service on the biblical Sabbath (Saturday). I was also invited to speak in area churches on Sunday mornings and evenings, and also Wednesday nights, on the holiness of Jesus from The Hebraic Perspective (vs. the Greek/Western perspective). I taught on different themes from Scripture, like the time when God told Abraham to sacrifice his uniquely begotten son, Isaac (Gen. 22), which is the prototype for the Father sacrificing His Son Yeshua, and what the Ark of the Covenant symbolizes, etc. By 1998 I had spoken more than 500 times in various churches of all persuasions. I lived in Israel with my wife, Ruti, for 16 years, until April 2013, when the Israeli authorities arrested Ruti and me because of our faith and witness for Yeshua the Messiah among our Jewish people. We were imprisoned for ten days and deported back to the States (JFK Airport in NYC). Since that time the Lord led us to travel all throughout the USA ministering to people in congregations, home fellowships, and on the streets and in grocery stores about Him and The Hebraic Perspective. Currently (July 2019) we're living in Flagstaff, AZ. We still support people in need in Israel, and in 2012 we began supporting a pastor in Kenya with orphans, which has grown to six pastors in six different villages who have more than 100 orphans. The pastors live around the city of Kisii, Kenya (about 180 miles west of Nairobi). Ruti is truly a gift from God to me. A perfect wife, who can find one? The Lord, in His graciousness to me, has given me one. Far above the price of rubies and diamonds is she to me. She is truly a helpmate (Gen. 2:18) and the joy in my life. We were married in Tulsa, OK in August 1989, and we become 'more one' with each other with each passing day (Gen. 2:24), thanks to Messiah Yeshua. He is truly faithful to supply our deepest needs. Together, Ruti and I proclaim the love, eternal life and forgiveness that is found in Messiah Yeshua to our Jewish people and to Gentiles. The Lord Yeshua also opened my eyes to a central biblical theme: the Law of Moses. The Church, for the last 1,900 years, has been diametrically opposed to what God, in the New Testament, says about the role of Mosaic Law in the life of every Christian. I explain why the Church is wrong in a book I wrote called, "The Lifting of the Veil: Acts 15:20-21." It's a free to read at http://seedofabraham.net/The-Lifting-of-the-Veil.pdf. Also, there are one page handouts that people find very helpful in realizing that Jesus wants us to walk as He and all His Apostles did; keeping the Sabbath, the Feasts of Israel and the Mosaic dietary laws, etc: 1. A Snapshot of Church History and Mosaic Law at http://seedofabraham.net/A-Snapshot-of-Church-History-and-Mosaic-Law.pdf 2. The Feasts of Israel and the Church http://seedofabraham.net/The-Feasts-of-Israel-and-the-Church.pdf 3. Why Sunday? at http://seedofabraham.net/Why-Sunday.pdf 4. Take the Quiz! Five Quick Questions about the New Testament at http://seedofabraham.net/Take-the-Quiz.pdf The Hebraic Perspective can best be summed up the way the Apostle John, writing about 60 years after the resurrection, spoke of our walk with Jesus: “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1st John 2:6). Hebrews 13:8 states that Jesus is the SAME yesterday, TODAY and forever, and since Jesus is the Head of the Body, the Church (Col. 1:18), we, as His Body, should walk out our faith in Him the way He did. He hasn't changed. Jesus kept all the Feasts of Israel (Lev. 23), as well as the 7th day Sabbath, and never ate any unclean meats (e.g. bacon and shrimp, etc.). All the Apostles walked just as He did (Acts 21:20-24; Rev. 12:17), and so we should, too. It was the Roman Catholic Church, in 120 AD, that threw out Sabbath, Feasts and Mosaic Law, and brought in Sunday, Easter and Xmas, anti-Mosaic Law theology and anti-Semitism. Christianity is the only religion in the world that does not emulate its Founder (Jesus). The Holy Spirit is addressing this today and many Christians are realizing that walking out their faith in Christ, through all the laws of Moses that apply to them, is a divine blessing from Above. (Go to my website and under Articles, click on The Hebraic Perspective, and you will find both my books and many biblical articles I've written that prove that all Christians should be walking out their faith in Christ through all the rules and laws of Moses that apply to them.) I also teach, train and ordain men, from all over the world, to begin branch congregations of The Seed of Abraham in their communities. If you have any questions let me know! We currently feed and clothe more than 100 orphans in Kenya, as well as feeding a number of Israelis. Since the year 2000 we have given more than $188,000 to Israelis in need of food, clothing, rent and dentistry, etc. Since 2012 we've given more than $50,000 to our Kenyan orphans. Yeshua is The Real Thing. Jesus made THE difference in my life because He is God the Son and He is Life. If you're looking for "meaning" in your life, seek Jesus Christ, be Born Again and filled with His Spirit and you will find the joy and love you've been looking for all your life, and you'll begin to understand that He is truly what this life, and the next, is all about. If you'd like to speak with me about Him, etc., you can contact me through the HomePage of my website or through my email (AvramYeh@Gmail.com). Looking forward!, Avram Yehoshua Formerly André Ferguson (Sestac was the surname I was born with, and André Michel were the names given to me at birth, but my mother remarried when I was 8 years old and chose to use my step-father's name for my last name. By 1987 the Lord Jesus had led me to use my Jewish name, given to me at my circumcision into the Covenant of Father Abraham, when I was 8 days old, which was Avram (Abram in English), and to take on the surname of Yehoshua, which is Joshua in English, and so Andr...(read more)
