About | Nicholas Paul Lafkas A Mill Valley resident since 1969, and passed away on April 29, 2008. Born in Santa Barbara on September 1, 1923 and graduated from high school in Fillmore. He became an Army Air Force cadet in the Pilot Training Program. He then attended the UC Berkeley as a journalism major and worked at the Office of Public Information at UC Berkeley. He joined three fellow graduates in starting what later became Stonelight Tile in the Los Gatos Area, and sold his interest in the company when he began teaching English at Jefferson High School in Daly City in 1959. He wrote half hour TV scripts for KRON Channel 4 "Science in Action" Program, and Wells Fargo History short subjects about characters such as Stage Coach Robber Black Bart. He enjoyed playing the guitar, helping assist his children with violin lessons and guitar, cooking, gardening, and photography. He acted briefly in a local movie, helped volunteers with a local art exhibit, and enjoyed trips with a painting group. Two of his carpooling friends, Wim Beringer and Alfred Runge, appeared in Esquire magazine with him in an article on teachers.
