About Me	I have been hearing impaired since birth ~ I never talked about it during my childhood or high school years because I felt it was hard enough to fit in without having a disability as well. I also had a congenital hip that slowed me down alot physically and prevented me from participating in any sports, or cheerleading. Teachers wanted to place me in special ed, but i wasnt mentally disabled, just partially deaf, and physically slow. I hid all of this during my school years and I honestly wish I had been more open about it growing up. I guess i felt that as kids, nobody would understand what I was going thru. I was picked on and bullied by quite a few people, but back then it wasnt considered an issue. I relied on lip reading which i have been told many times that i have excelled at...i tried hearing aids but they were of no use for me because the cohlea (the fine hairs that help us hear) mine were either dead, damaged or I never had them. The only solution was for me to hear thru my brain :) In August 2015 I was blessed with Cochlear implant surgery on the right side ~ while i still do not have 100% overall hearing, i have gained at least 80% of my hearing (on the right side) with this instrument. My left side is still quiet (5% hearing). I am truely blessed and grateful ~ i only wish this would have been something I could have done as a teenager so I would not have missed out on so much :) I have been married twice (I wont go into detail about them, just that my hearing loss was a huge issue in both of them and enabled me to be controlled in so many ways :( Currently I am married for the third time to my partner, my love, my life...he accepts me for who I am and his support gets me thru each day. I have also gained six step kids and two grandaughters in this marriage My hearing loss & my past is a part of me...it happened for a reason ~ I am not the same person i was back in my school days...i am more outgoing, i am grateful for everyday things such as hearing birds sing, rain falling, "i love you" ...some for the very first times. how does one put into words the feelings you feel when experiencing this things? you dont really..you just ta...(read more)
