About I'm not sure of the exact day, but the month and year are correct.
Jan died of cancer. Her first cancer was when she was 3, which is what took her sight. She was cancer free for over 40 years before it came back with a vengeance. After a long and exhausting battle, Jan was finally able to go to sleep and wake up where she wanted to be: somewhere other than in pain, in her bed, and at home. She'd said it many times...."Am I *still* here?"
Well my friend, now you are free. Of all our years together (I've known her since I was 3), now you can eat all the grass you want, because it's all the good part up there (those of you who knew her know what I mean), you'll never run out of potato soup or rice crispie treats, and there's an unending supply of RC, just for you! AND, nobody's going to pester you to drink milk or anything else you don't want, cuz there's a HUGE Banqueting Table, and you can have whatever you want! Yes my friend, now you can *really* laugh at people, like we used to, only you can see what you're laughing at now instead of me trying to describe it to you :)
Your life here was way too short. I miss you every day. I have a hole in my heart that even donuts won't fill. There's nobody to call up and say, "Do you know WHAT?!" :)
I miss you my beloved friend who refused to walk on her own feet and insisted on walking on mine. Yes, you're not off the hook on that one yet. Everyone who loves you down here misses you. You'd be very proud of J. She's such a good mommie, and the girls are beautiful blessings. If you were here, you'd be having a great time with them. One day we'll babysit together again....and come up with some new discoveries, lol!
Jan had a great sense of humor that many people missed. She did more things than many sighted people did. Riding bikes, roller skating, horseback riding, taking the bus from one end of the valley to the other, just because she could, walking the streets of New York at midnight, scaring the life out of everyone she called to tell (yes, she made sure we knew)...she loved adventure. We'd spend hours memorizing a new song until we had every word down. We'd call KKLA repeatedly until she'd win whatever the prize was that day. Jan was not a stay at home, go nowhere, do nothing type of person. Blind as she was, she went places and did things. People always underestimated her, which is how she got away with so much. She sure was a lot of fun though!
I don't think you could've known Jan and not learned great things from her.
You've left your mark on the world for at least this generation and the next. The roads will never be the same.
I love you Janny, and yes, I did call you that!
Love you my forever-getting-me-into-trouble friend. We will laugh together again soon~
Love,
me :)
