About Me | Natalie C. Sandy is an 12 year veteran in the field of intellectual & developmental disabilities. Natalie has held positions as a Direct Service Professional, Assistant Residential Manager and Residential Supervisor at agencies such as YAI/ National Institute for People with Disabilities and Community Mainstreaming Associates. As an advocate in the field, her focus is on therapeutic recreation and empowerment. Natalie has received awards as well as a featured profile in both the Queens Chronicle and New York Newsday for her work with the Intellectual and Developmentally Disabled population. This four time New York State title holder proudly advocates on behalf of the developmentally disabled through her platform of developmental disability awareness and advocacy. She is honored to support the campaign against the “R” word & the Special Olympics of New York. She has even braved the icy cold Staten Island water to Polar Plunge to raise money for the athletes of the Special Olympics. In addition to advocacy work she is also a Social Entrepreneur. It also provides a resource of tips and advice for those interested in pageantry. Divas Making a Difference, another brainchild of Ms. Sandy, is an organization dedicated to Pageant Queens Past and Present that are doing great things in their community and beyond. The organization is an elite club of incredible women coming together to create change across the country through volunteerism and charity work. Currently Natalie is the reigning Ms. New York American Beauties Plus 2012. She placed 2nd runner up at nationals, as well as receiving the 2012 American Beauties Plus Director’s Award. Natalie’s affiliations include Big Brother Big Sister Mentor Supervisor Alumni, Mentoring Partnership of NY Certification, National Alliance of Direct Support Professional and YAI Brighter Future Society.
