I was honored this at home coming this fall (2010) to be placed in the "ithaca Hall of Fame" for Community Service. It was based on my work over the past 15+ years in trying to save some of the park lands in Milwaukee County from being overrun by very aggressive invasive weeds from other countries. Also, for doing promoting rope jumping as another means to stay in shape and avoid obesity - one of the true epidemics I am concerned about as a physician. Admittedly, I stumbled into rope jumping when I was looking for another way to stay active in the winter rather than running. At the time I started in the early 1980's I got to be a big fish in a tiny pond. Did everything from research to write books, appear on national TV, do shows with other entertainers, set a couple of Guinness records, etc. Now rope jumping is an international sport with incredible athletes that would put me to shame. This is supposed to be how it goes in a successful sport!
