About	Verna Ellen Overs Owen, a true cancer warrior, passed away Tuesday evening, July 29, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. Verna was a 1965 graduate of Indian Lake High School and a beloved member of the Indian Lake community. She was known by many as the friendly cashier at Tinsley’s IGA, where she worked for 32 years. Verna was also an avid reader, volunteer at the Indian Lake Food Pantry, and zealous member of the Indian Lake Red Hat Society. Verna was born in 1946 in West Mansfield, to the late Emmit L. and Minnie I. Hartman Coyer. Having nine older siblings, Verna was fondly called the “baby of 10.” Verna is preceded in death by siblings, Emmit Junior Coyer, Doris M. Krichbaum, Carl E. Coyer and Carrie Ann Bradford; and is survived by Jim Coyer of Lakeview, Kathy (Dick) Carpenter of West Mansfield, Judy Knotts of Huntsville, Mary Lou (Dick) Camper of Lakeview and Floella “Toad” Krabill of Bellefontaine. The Coyer sisters have always spent their Tuesday afternoons together, and although Verna is no longer on Earth with us, she is now happily spending her Tuesdays in Heaven with her sisters who have passed on. In true style, Verna married Benjamin A. Owen in Reno, Nev., in 1990, and he showered her with chocolate and diamonds for the rest of their life together. Verna’s other favorite man was her son, Jeffrey Todd (Beth) Overs of DeGraff. She was also blessed with four stepchildren, Vicki Perkins of Springfield, Kathi Salyers and Lori (Tim) McGrath, both of Dayton, and the late Michael Owen. As much as Verna loved chocolate and diamonds, she loved her grandchildren even more! Anyone who checked out in her lane at Tinsley’s could attest to that! Her grandchildren include Rachael Overs, Emily Overs, Stacy Lanning, Mandy Burns, Michael Perkins, Carly Perkins, Carrie Chapman, Sarah Hyder, Scott Hyder, Leah Salyers, Michelle McGrath and Rebecca Glass; as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Verna’s family would like to thank the staff of Universal Home Health and Hospice Care for their dedicated care and support. Pastor Rob Kilgore begins memorial services at noon, Friday, Aug. 1, at Shoffstall Funeral Home Main Chapel, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, with visitation one hour prior to services. Inurnment is in Huntsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Verna’s name to the United Christian Services of Indian Lake Food Pantry, P.O.
