Favorite School Memory | I moved to Lima, OH when I was in the fifth grade, but I've never forgotten my classmates in Huron, and wonder what you've all been up to. |
About Me | Wow...I guess I have a LOT of catching up to do! I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1988 with a dual BS in Chemistry and Biology. I then moved to Baltimore, MD to start a Ph.D. program in Biochemistry, but discovered in my first year that I liked people more than test tubes. During my two-year hiatus from school I worked as a science editor and then a patent examiner. I worked with a pharmacist in one of these jobs. I knew I has discovered my true career, and graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1995 followed by a two-year fellowship in Family Medicine at the University of Florida. I have worn "many hats" in my career, including work as a clinical pharmacist at the West Palm Beach VA and owning my own small business that specialized mostly in medical education (writing and presentations). I currently work with Southwest Washington Medical Center in their family medicine residency program. There I see patients on medications that are complex to dose. I also act as a drug information resource to our medical residents, give educational lectures to them, and work with them in my own clinic. I also participate in the education of pharmacy students and pharmacy residents. I love my work and I get to combine my greatest professional passions: chemistry, patient care and teaching. Personally, I have been happily married to Tom Cauffield for 14 years. The way we met was unexpected and an interesting story that I may share here in the future (time permitting...I never sit still). We lived in Florida for roughly the first ten years of our married lives. I gave birth to our son Jonathan in 2002, and he is the most treasured part of our lives. We moved to the Pacific Northwest four years ago. I was always fascinated by this area of the country, and we wanted Jonathan to go through a school system better than those offered in Florida (Tom teaches high school level science-he knew first hand what Jonathan would face!). When my current job was advertised, the draw was irresistible. I felt at home the minute I stepped off the plane. It's been the perfect decision for all of us. Jonathan is now in first grade, and is already a busy boy. He's very social, and loves to spend his days playing with his friends. He's taking piano lessons, swim lessons, and hopes to play soccer and t-ball. He's already showing some good foot skills with the soccer ball. He also dreams of guitar lessons. Despite my great love of music in high school, I'm not very active with it now. I haven't touched a bassoon in over 20 years, although I have several different flutes. I played for awhile in a Celtic band in MD, and hope that Jonathan's own musical interests will spur me to return to my own. We live on 5 acres just Northeast of Vancouver, WA (just across the Columbia River from Portland, OR). We share our home/land with 2 dogs (an Australian Shepherd and a Golden Retriever), an 18 year old cat and 8 llamas (no, llamas DON't spit as much as they're claimed to-they're no more likely to spit on a person than a typical dog is to bite someone). Llamas and alpacas are actually quite common in this area of the country...probably has something to do with the climate and outdoorsy lifestyle. Jonathan helps me care for them, and I am hoping he shows an interest in 4-H in the future. We love our llamas mostly for their companionship. Several visit Jonathan's daycare on a regular basis and love the attention they receive from the kids there. We take them in parades, are teaching one to pull a cart, and have gotten several used to packs. We have yet to take them on hikes, but it's in the works. I love the fiber arts, and love to spin their f...(read more) |
