i lived next door to doug on elmwood drive,i always knew him as a good athlete and a great competitor,i will always remember him as a good friend and a good person

I lived in Thornton Circle for many years; I had seen Doug only a couple of times since we Graduated. Then, on the Courthouse Square, the night on which the Running of The Olympic Torch made its way through Huntsville,..Doug and I crossed paths, in the middle of the road, right in front of Harrison Brothers’ Hardware.
We talked of old times…he walked me home…and our old friendship became rekindled. I remember mentioning to Doug that my Cardiologist had “instructed” me to walk at least two miles each day; and that I would like to find someone willing to join me for those couple of miles, beginning at 4:30 am, each morning, before I needed to leave for work. Well, lo and behold, at 4:00am the next morning, Doug was on my front porch…waiting for me to walk out to begin my walk. Well, thanks to Doug’s love of excercise, in just a week or so… my couple of miles turned into Three or Four miles each morning!!!
