About Me For those of you who find my page here, call me and tell me how to get back to it............ After reading a bio of someone I briefly went to high school with, I have decided to elaborate on my own previously extremely brief biography. I attended or should I say, stayed at Oakwood Friends School from 1966 through '68. I made some friends there and learned next to nothing, through no fault of the school. I did however apparently pick up a few things while there which would help to shape me into the person I have become; a rotund individual, with massive girthliness. I also must have attained some stuff about being a good person and citizen while there. I finished my high school education, or lack thereof, at Hunter Tannersville Central in 1970 and went directly to SUNY Farmingdale because my father promised me a car if I went to college. I got a 1970 Chevelle Super Sport and eventually backed it into a light pole on the Sagtikos State Parkway at about 50 mph in a downpour. I've been driving trucks ever since. I joined the Hunter Fire Dept, Co. No. 1 in 1976 and subsequently held every officer position over the next 20 years. I am still active in fire fighting, running an engine, a tanker or an aerial truck when any of the above is actually in service. In 1989 I joined an ad hoc group to begin to raise money for a playground and as a result, helped build a community playground at HTC elementary school in Hunter. The building of this playground was truly an inspirational and pivotal moment in my life. Working with people who came together from all walks of life to build something together was an awesome experience. Unfortunately the school district decided to tear down the playground a few years ago, because a child today shouldn't run the risk of getting a splinter from such a 'toxic' playground. It was replaced with plastic for the most part. I was a charter member of the Greene County Fire Investigation Team in 1993 and remained active with it until I was injured while investigating a fire in 2001. I saw more of Greene county in those years than I ever had before. I did grow weary of investigating too many fires where the surrounds were strewn with carcasses of rusted out bbq grilles, snowmobiles, atv(s), and assorted crap in the mud to trip over in the dark. But my time on the team was a worthwhile experience. I joined the Hunter Foundation at it's inception and eventually became a board member a few years later. I even spent a few years as Co-Chairman or chairperson or just chair. The HF was created to fix up properties on 23A in Hunter, it has done all that and much more. After graduating high from Farmingdale I spent a year as an electrician. I then came back to the family business where I had spent summers during HS working in construction. We built city halls, schools, hospitals, roads and bridges among other things. I started as a laborer, became a superintendent and along the way I picked up many skills. I spent the better part of 35 years honing my technique as a heavy equipment operator, truck driver, superintendent and psychiatric social worker for the people who worked with and for me. I repaired and built bridges from Maryland to Maine. I am now a crane operator, some days anyway, in the Albany area. Along the way, I raised, or should I say (?) helped raise, 4 kids. I suppose they'll be the judge of that. I now claim 5 kids, but that's a story for another day. I have taken interest in my community over the years and tried where I could in a minuscule way, to make it a better place to live. I guess that someday, 1 of my kids will copy and paste this into the obituary...(read more)
