What is Ray Kerr known for?

Raymond Alexander Kerr, born September 10, 1994, in Sacramento, California, is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). An alumnus of Hug High School in Reno, Nevada, Kerr graduated in 2013 and went on to play college baseball for Mendocino College and Lassen College. He also played collegiate summer baseball for the Peninsula Oilers in the Alaska Baseball League in 2017.

Kerr started his professional career as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Seattle Mariners in August of 2017. He made his professional debut with the Single-A Clinton LumberKings in 2018, achieving a 5-11 record, a 4.28 ERA, and 101 strikeouts across 25 starts. Kerr split the 2019 season between the High-A Modesto Nuts and the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, marking a 4-7 record, a 3.82 ERA, and 95 strikeouts over 92.0 innings of work across 36 total appearances.

The 2020 season was uneventful due to the cancellation of minor leagues because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he pitched for the Double-A Arkansas Travelers and Tacoma, attaining a 3.18 ERA with 60 strikeouts over 36 appearances. The Mariners added him to their 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

On November 27, 2021, he was traded to the San Diego Padres in a deal that involved Adam Frazier. Kerr was assigned to the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas to begin the 2022 season, but he was soon promoted to the major leagues for the first time to replace the injured Pierce Johnson. He made his MLB debut on April 24, featuring in seven games and achieving a 9.00 ERA with three strikeouts in five innings pitched for the Padres. The following year, in 2023, he started the season with the Triple-A El Paso.

His MLB statistics through the 2023 season are as follows: a 1-1 win-loss record, a 5.06 earned run average, and 38 strikeouts.
