About | Linda Rae Funkhouser, 75 passed away peacefully in Portland, OR, on May 27, 2022 from duodenal ampullary cancer. Linda was born in Vancouver, WA, on March 3, 1947, to Ray and Florence Funkhouser, the second of three sisters, Sherrie, Linda and Dyann. The family spent time in Eastern Washington in LaCrosse, Spokane and the Tri-Cities area before returning to Vancouver where she graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School in 1965. Linda founded the Food Front Cooperative Grocery in Portland in 1972. After that Linda traveled to the East Coast where she earned a BS degree in engineering from Rutgers University and worked for Chubb Insurance as an Underwriter for several years. She eventually moved to Tampa Bay Florida and lived and worked in Florida as a paralegal. While living in Florida Linda purchased and restored three homes and rented them for affordable rates, always remembering her working class roots. She was very passionate about protecting the environment and our democracy. Linda is survived by her elder sister, Sherrie Funkhouser; nieces, Juliette Soihl and Natalie (Alkire) Golobay; nephews, Michael Alkire and Charles Baxter; her grand nieces and nephew. Linda loved her West Coast family and was an entertaining and fun Great Auntie to all her grand nephews and nieces. Her spunky independent personality will be missed by her family and friends. She was a good person and made the world a better place while she was here. |
