About | Michael James Maynard, age 70, of Vancouver, Washington passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Michael was born March 18, 1950 in Vancouver, WA. Our whole family is reeling from shock and grief at the loss of our beloved husband, Dad, and Grandpa Mike Maynard last Wednesday, Oct. 28. We have been high school sweethearts since 1967, married for 47 years, raised our three sons, Matt, Scott and Casey, and adored our seven grandchildren together. We lost him so suddenly and so much sooner than any of us expected, we cannot fathom life without him. Mike had a spontaneous brain bleed on Oct. 16, but it wasn’t an aneurysm or stroke, he had no neurological damage and he was expected to fully recover. He’d come through some other serious medical conditions in the last couple of years, and we assumed he would beat this too. But excruciating pain/pressure in his head became increasingly worse despite all the different drugs they kept trying and he became visibly weaker. His heart gave out, he collapsed at home, and all the efforts of the EMTs and ER team couldn’t revive him. Although I wasn’t ready to post anything until now, many other people have and we have been OVERWHELMED by the number of people who have expressed how Mike had touched their lives and how much they loved, respected, and enjoyed knowing him through high school and college at UW (Go Huskies!), our boys’ activities, McDonald’s, pheasant hunting, refereeing football, baseball, basketball and softball, and most recently, helping Matt sell boats. Unfortunately, Covid-19 prevents us from having the Memorial we would like to have now. However, we kept the ashes of his beloved Gordon Setters, Maggie and Bonnie, and Mike always said that he’d like to have his ashes spread with theirs in the bird fields where they hunted. So when this Covid crisis passes, and it becomes safe to do so, we will plan a large Celebration of Life in the Sacramento area. (Let me know if you want to be notified.) Anyone who knew Mike since 1987 knows he “had ketchup in his veins” from his 25 years building and remodeling McDonald’s restaurants in Northern California and Nevada. He loved the entire experience, the people he worked with and the culture, from collecting McDonald’s memorabilia to participating in many of the charitable projects McDonald’s promotes. In honor of Mike, in lieu of sending flowers, please consider donating to a Ronald McDonald House. |
