About Me	Jan and her husband Michael own Carolina Creations, a fine art and contemporary craft gallery in Downtown, New Bern, NC. The gallery was established in 1989. Jan was born in Adrian, Michigan and received her BA in drawing and printmaking from Siena Heights University there. She had a 20-year career working in commercial art with an ad agency, commercial printer, and newspaper, all the while showing her fine art in shows throughout Michigan, Ohio, Colorado and Utah. In 1989 she and her husband Michael moved to New Bern, looking for a home on the water, a more temperate climate and a town that was on its way but not yet there. They opened Carolina Creations with several other artists then went off on their own in 1996. Janet is well known for her paintings of New Bern and both she and Michael create a line of pottery they call “Celebration Pottery.” In addition to their own work they also represent over 300 artists from North Carolina and across the United States. They have four employees. “We love the way our Downtown has been redeveloped and has blossomed. We ourselves have restored a commercial building and a home, downtown, as well as built a new home and studio in the historic district.” Jan has been on the Board of the National Craft Retailers Association whose goal is to promote and support American craft for the past 7 years. She has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by the New Bern Chamber of Commerce and has been cited by the Tourism Development Agency for her contribution to promoting tourism in the region. And has just been awarded Downtown Champion by the Main Street Program, a division of the NC Dept of Commerce. One of the ways Carolina Creations gives back to the community is to sponsor a yearly Valentine Card show and sale – 25 schools in Craven County create cards which are sold in the gallery, proceeds are donated to the schools art programs.
