About Me	I am a late-in-life professional writer, but I’ve been writing throughout my entire life. When I retired several years ago I found myself with the time and personal permission to engage a profession which had been a siren call to me. I am a late-in-life professional writer, but I’ve been writing throughout my entire life. Even as a child I wrote poems and stories and shared them with my family and my friends. Throughout my public school education I wrote incessantly. It wasn’t always remarkable or even note-worthy, but it was a comfortable and expressive way to communicate my thoughts. I have been surprised (pleasantly) in recent months to have a number of my classmates tell me that they remember pieces I wrote as early as Junior High School. College and graduate schools gave me lots of opportunity to write. Actually, some of it was not half bad! I was surprised when the literary journal of my undergraduate school printed some of my poetry. It was my first inkling that (down the road) there might be a place in this world for my words in print. A nearly-four-decade career provided me with lots of opportunities to write, and some of it ended up in publications. It was professional material for the most part. The Penultimate Word is a product of course work I have been taking at Brown University. I had not a clue as to what a blog was, or how one tackled such an endeavor. Then I began reading blogs and discovering a whole new way of communicating. My decision to post on a daily basis has been exciting. It begins my day, and I find myself visiting the site several times throughout the day. Sometimes I’m amazed at what I’ve written…and sometimes I ask myself, “What is that all about?” I write before six o’clock in the morning, so I can’t be held responsible for absolute clarity! I live in Rhode Island, where every turn in every road exposes a beauty beyond comparison. This city of Providence is an amazing mosaic of people and a microcosm of our nation. It is a city where the arts flourish and the culture is rich. Amazing colleges and universities set the tone for life in this city. Live theater and creative film settings are found throughout the community. And there are sports to keep me grounded.
