Former Sharon woman was Howland music teacher
WARREN, Ohio -- Alice I. Silverthorn of 8435 Squirrel Hill, Howland Township, formerly of Sharon, passed away at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb., 21, 2003, in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, following an extended illness. She was 73.

Mrs. Silverthorn was born April 3, 1929, in North Vandergrift, Pa., a daughter of Michael E. and Mary Fishel Mazarick.

She earned her bachelor of music degree from Youngstown State University in 1964 and her master of arts in performance in 1970 from Kent (Ohio) State University.

Alice lived in Howland for the past 36 years and taught music in the Howland School System from 1963 to 1984. She was responsible for producing a variety of musical productions during her career at Howland High School.

She was the choir director for East Side Church (Baptist-Disciples of Christ), Sharon, and Pleasant Valley Church in Niles, Ohio. She was the pianist for the Howland Rotary Club for many years and taught private piano and voice lessons for 40 years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Silverthorn, whom she married on Dec. 12, 1947 in Sharon.

Other survivors include: a son, Charles, and his wife, Michael-Ann Silverthorn, Salineville, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Ellen) Moscaritolo, Chester, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Ethan Silverthorn, Elissa Wilson, Crystal Oliver and Cheryl Oliver.

The family requests material contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of East Side Church (Baptist-Disciples of Christ), 201 Spruce Ave., Sharon 16146.
