About Mary Wallich Hawkins died on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Talbot Hospice. She was 89 years old. Born on November 3, 1935, she was the daughter of Walter and Ethel Wallich of Clarksville MD. Mary graduated from Howard High School in 1953. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart John Clifton Hawkins Sr. They married on May 28, 1954 in Clarksville MD. In 1959 they moved to Easton MD for a job opportunity and remained. John unexpectedly passed away on July 4, 2007.

Mary worked for the Talbot County Board of Education for 30 years. She was a member of Christ Church, Easton, the Ladies of the Elk’s, Lodge 1622, and the Talbot County Retired Teachers. She volunteered in the Christ Church Choir, Festival of Trees, RISE program at White Marsh Elementary School, and meals at the Talbot Interfaith Shelter.

After her retirement, Mary and John could be found at their condo in Ocean City. They enjoyed their time there and made many new friends. And they also enjoyed taking their nine grandchildren there, which was a handfull.

Mary is survived by her sister Joy Wallach Monroe of Waldorf MD. Her son Jay (Nancy) Hawkins, Easton MD, daughter Lori (Rick) Hester, Easton MD, and son David (Lori) Hawkins of Royal Oak MD.

Grandchildren Patrick Hester, Falls Church VA, Malley (Joey) Everngam, Cordova MD, Mary (Joe) Dell’Erba, Millersville MD, Jennifer Hawkins, Cherry Hill NJ, Katie (Max) Bourg, Charlotte NC, William Hawkins USN, Norfolk VA, Kaylie Hawkins (Harvey), Easton MD, Kelsie (Colin) Topping, Ocean City MD, Kara (Mike) Zonko, Frankford DE. She also leaves behind six great grandchildren Harvey, Caroline and Avery, Sophia and Isabel, and Remi.
Events Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 S. Harrison Street, Easton MD 21601. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22,2025 at 11am, at Christ Church, 111 S. Harrison Street in Easton MD, Burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 11365 Ocean Gateway, Easton MD 21601.
