About | John Allen Oliver "Allen", age 80, of Twinsburg passed away Friday, March 29, 2024. He was born August 25, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late John L. and Lillian V. (nee Specht) Oliver. Allen is survived by his beloved wife Judy Ann (nee Zaner) Oliver; two children, Joy (Karl) Stoler of Solon, Ohio, and John (Darlene) Oliver of Canton, Michigan; and three dear grandchildren, Jacob (Melissa) Stoler, Benjamin Stoler, and Eric Oliver. After receiving his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland, Allen proudly served in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1970, stationed in San Antonio, TX, where his children were born. He attained the rank of Captain and completed his master’s degree at Texas A&M University while serving. After his discharge, the family moved back to Maryland, and he went on to a long and distinguished career in aerospace engineering, spending time working for GE Aerospace, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and Glenn Research Center, the US Naval Research Lab, and others. He contributed to numerous projects in the field, including sounding rockets to study the Earth’s atmosphere, experiments that flew onboard the Space Shuttle and Spacelab, and instrumentation packages that are part of the SOHO solar observation probe. Later in life, Allen and Judy moved to the Cleveland, OH, area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Outside of work, Allen loved riding his motorcycles with various clubs, staying current on the latest developments in aerospace and aviation, and above all spending time with his family and keeping up with his grandsons’ activities. |
Events | Allen was laid to rest privately at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Allen's memory to The Myositis Association, Attn: Development Department, 6950 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite 370, Columbia, MD 21046.
