Richard S. Hartwell, 73 of Largo, FL passed away Tuesday January 19, 2016 under the care of Hospice at Sabal Palms. He was born May 24, 1942 in South Charleston, West Virginia to the late James Sterling Hartwell and Helen Marie Martin Hartwell. Richard (Dick) was a fire truck salesman. At one time he owned his own fire truck manufacturing/refurbishing company, Gator Emergency Vehicles in Clearwater, FL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and boating. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his sister Lois D. Colvin and her husband Robert of Ft. Myers. He was father to three children, his late son Richard S. Hartwell, Jr,, daughter Tracy L. Johnson and her husband Allen of Largo, and son James R. Hartwell and his wife Jennifer of Largo. He is survived by 5 grandchildren: Joshua and Sarah Johnson, Brittany Merle and husband Brian, Brianna Wilkins and husband Jordan, and Alexis Hartwell. Two great grandchildren: Gabriel and Elizabeth Merle. He was predeceased by his loving wife Nancy May Sloan Hartwell, his son Richard S. Hartwell, Jr., and brother Donald E. Hartwell.
A memorial service was held on February 12th at 7:00 pm at Grace Christian Fellowship, 901 Ridge Rd. S., Largo, FL 33770.

A time of fellowship followed the memorial service. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
