About | Donald Lee Weigel Sr., beloved husband of Eva Lillian Weigel, both of Keedysville, Maryland, passed away on May 1, 2024, in Frederick, Maryland. Mr. Weigel was born January 14, 1941, in Ellicott City, Maryland to Robert Henry Smith Weigel and Esther Rebecca (Johnson) Weigel. He was a graduate of Howard County Senior High School who then went on to matriculate at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Weigel worked his entire career at the Patuxent Naval Air Test Center in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, beginning as an engineer working on the P-3C aircraft and retiring as the director of Computer Science in 1993. Mr. Weigel spent many happy years retired in Keedysville. He filled his days spending time with his wife, Eva, and their many cats, and frequenting the local diner for coffee, nearly every day. He was a model train collector and aficionado, and he maintained active memberships in model train communities too numerous to count. During his retirement he volunteered at a school in St. Mary's County, where he implemented their first computer network. Later, he volunteered for the Keedysville town council for several years. He and Eva especially enjoyed driving through the countryside together and taking in the beautiful views. Mr. Weigel is survived by his wife, Eva, their children, Rebecca Lewis (daughter), Donald L. Weigel Jr. (son), Jena Judd (daughter), Jennifer Fishinger (stepdaughter) and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his nieces, Diane Talanezhar and Suzanne Kraus, and his sister-in-law Gloria Cannizzaro. |
