About On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Mary Leslie Edmondson, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at age 84 quietly at her home surrounded by her loving family members.
Mary Leslie was born on February 15, 1939, in West Friendship, Maryland to William Leslie Hawkins and Evelyn Mae Drechsler. Mary is survived by her loving husband Clarence H. Edmondson, sons Chad R. Edmondson and wife Melanie of Ellicott City, MD and Kevin C. Edmondson and wife Karen of Sherrils Ford, NC and their four beloved grandchildren.
The two met at a high school dance, were married shortly thereafter in April 1958, and have shared 65 wonderful years together. When they began their life journey together Mary worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington DC. In 1958 they moved to Towson Maryland and Mary began work for Baltimore County government. In 1963, Mary began working for Howard County Government, in the Department of Planning and Zoning, where she remained until her retirement 35 years later in 1998.
After retirement she played many active roles, such as serving as a Board of Trustee Member of Howard County Hospital, was a licensed Realtor, and was very active in the Claudia Mayer Cancer committee. But the role she treasured most was as grandmother to their blessed grandchildren, Brandi, Jake, Bret, Sam and newest, grandchild of the heart, Sam’s wife Sally Edmondson. She treasured spending time with them each day whether it was on the beach in Ocean City Maryland or at a local Howard County sporting venue.
She and Clarence were long time members of St. James United Methodist Church where she served as assistant organist and in several Chair positions within the organization. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please consider a memorial gift to St. James United Methodist, 12470 Old Frederick Road, Marriottsville, MD 21104.
Events A viewing was held on Saturday, March 11, 2022, from 10am to 12pm at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd, Eldersburg, MD 21784. A celebration service followed on Saturday, March 11, 2022, at 1pm at St. James United Methodist Church, 12450 Old Frederick Road, Marriottsville, MD 21104.
A private family burial followed the service.
