About | James (Jim) Harold Addison, age 87, of Smyrna, Georgia passed away on July 10, 2023 from cancer. Jim was born on April 25, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland. After Jim graduated as an Electrical Engineer from The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC in 1958, he married Elaine Bernardin. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years before settling down with Elaine in Columbia, SC. Jim and Elaine had four children: Anna Maria (Ria), James (Jimmy), Joseph (Joe) and Angela (Angie). Jim worked as an engineer with SCE&G (South Carolina Electric and Gas) for over three decades. Once he retired, Jim enjoyed playing golf, volunteering at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and School in Columbia, SC, supporting Cardinal Newman High School, and working with other civic organizations, such as the Optimist Club. Jim and Elaine moved to Marietta, GA in 2001 where three of their four children and several grandchildren were living at the time. Sadly, Elaine passed away in September of 2006. Jim and Elaine were married for 48 years. Jim kept himself busy helping his children and grandchildren and enjoyed traveling whenever he had the opportunity. He would proudly state that he visited all 50 states in America. He enjoyed trips to Europe including England, France, Italy, Austria, and Germany. In late 2008, Jim met Clara McCormack, and they were married on June 5, 2010. The couple resided in Smyrna, GA. Jim was predeceased by his first wife, Elaine Addison and older brother, Ed Addison. He is survived by his wife, Clara Addison; younger brother, Tom Addison; children, Anna Maria Hatfield, Jimmy Addison, Joe Addison, and Angie Haddad; grandchildren, Amanda Rentfrow, James Addison III, Jessica Addison, Philip Addison, Andrew Addison, Mary Jane Addison, Katherine Addison, Jordan Haddad, and Cameron Haddad; and great grandchildren, Reid and Sadie Rentfrow. |
Events | Services were held at St. Joseph’s Church in Marietta, Georgia at 87 Lacy Street in Marietta, GA on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10:00 am. Graveside services and burial were held at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Columbia, SC at 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201 on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations made to: Saint Joseph Catholic Church 87 Lacy St. Marietta GA 30060; or St. Vincent de Paul ? Saint Joseph Catholic Church at the above address; or Green Park Personal Care Home 3861 Jiles Road Kennesaw GA 30144. The Addison family is grateful to the staff at Green Park who lovingly cared for Jim during his final journey. |
