About | Lawrence Damm Pfeiffer (Larry) died November. 7, 2016, at Home. Larry had been ill for some time and confined to a wheelchair. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on September 11, 1935, to wonderful parents, Tom and Grace Pfeiffer. He grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland, where he graduated from Howard High School and then joined the Air Force for 4 years. After serving in the Air Force, Larry went to the University of Maryland, graduating in math education. Larry met Rosalee Mauck (Rosie). They married before he graduated from college. After college, Larry taught math at Howard High School (His and Rosie’s Alma mater) He then joined the Department of the Army as an education advisor at Fort Ritchie, Maryland (Hagerstown), Continuing his education with a master’s in science and many credits toward his doctorate. Larry, Rosie, and their 4 sons, moved from Hagerstown, Maryland, to Heidelberg, Germany, where Larry served as Director of Military Education for the Heidelberg Military Community for 4 years. From Germany, Larry, Rosie and family moved to Huntsville, AL, where they worked at Redstone Arsenal, from where they both retired. Larry was involved with building their home near Lake Guntersville, where he and Rosie lived for the past 20 years. They have been members of Epiphany Episcopal Church for the past 15 years. Larry is survived by his wife, Rosie Pfeiffer, their sons, their wives and children, Michael (Helen), Scott (Chrisi) and Mark (Lori), granddaughters Alexandra, Emily, Brianna and Emma; sister, Ruth Donaldson (Jim), sister-in-law, Loretta Bassler; and brother-in-law, Pete Mauck (Susan), as well as nieces and nephews. Larry and Rosie lost their eldest son, David, in 1982 soon after they moved to Huntsville. |
Events | Services for Larry was held at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 1101 Sunset Drive, Guntersville AL, 35976 on November 21, 2016,with visitation at 1:00 and Eucharist and Interment in the church garden at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions were made to the Guardian Angel Thrift for Alzheimer’s, 742 N. Main Street, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526 (guardianangelthrift.org), an organization with which Larry and Rosie were very active for many years, or Epiphany Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 116, Guntersville, AL 35976 (Church@EpiphanyGuntersville.org). |
