About Reid Austin Zimmer, age 82, of Elkridge Maryland, passed away on September 14, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mildred. He is forever loved by his four children and their spouses, Candace Rios and husband, Lee; Kimberly Roberts and husband, Jason; Jeff Zimmer and wife, Michele; and Brian Zimmer. He will always be cherished by his five grandchildren; Tyler Roberts, Derek Zimmer, Colby Roberts, Nicole Zimmer and Phineas Zimmer. He was called Pa by his grandchildren but also by his large family of great nieces, nephews and many friends who became family in his heart over the years.

Reid was passionate about his career as a pharmacist and worked in the industry for over 50 years at various hospitals and home health care companies in the Baltimore area. He spent over 20 years at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In retirement, Reid was a member of the Maryland Board of Pharmacy.

His other passion, was his family. He enjoyed family gatherings where food and laughter could always be found. He took his family to the Outer Banks for a beach vacation every year as the children were growing. That tradition continued as the family grew over the years and eventually was 20 people sharing one house! Sitting around a large table as a group or watching everyone spread out across the backyard at a cookout were his favorite days.

Reid was a lifelong fan of sports – as a player, a coach and as a spectator on the sidelines. In high school (Howard High School, ’58) he played football and baseball. After finishing school, he kept active playing football, softball, tennis and cycling. He coached his sons in baseball for many years. Other ways he gave to his community were his involvement in Jaycees, Boy Scouts of America and Elkridge Youth Organization (EYO). On a weekend afternoon, Reid would often sit on the couch to watch a game while his dog, Onnie slept across his lap.
