About | Virginia Dorey Pausch, 95, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021. She was the wife of the late Frederick Richard Pausch. Virginia was born on November 20, 1925 in Henrico County, Virginia, the eldest daughter of the late Fred Orwin Dorey and Belle Ferguson Dorey. She grew up on her family’s dairy farm and received a B.A. in Education from Radford University in 1946 and a M.A. in English Literature from the University of Virginia in 1950. Throughout the course of her long teaching career, she taught at Morrison High School near Newport News, VA and at Towson Senior High School and Howard High School in Howard County, MD. During their retirement, she and her husband tutored many students in English as a second language through their organization, Up With Kids. Virginia enjoyed playing bridge and watching football. She appreciated art and enjoyed attending classes at several art museums. She was a member of the Howard County Poetry & Literature Society, numerous book clubs, and the Howard County Master Gardeners. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Howard County where she was a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and church librarian. Virginia was a world traveler and visited six continents. Many of her trips with her husband were in pursuit of promoting educational opportunities for girls and women from other countries. Virginia moved to Lynchburg, VA in 2011 to be close to her family and resided at the Summit until her death. May she rest in peace! Throughout her 34 year career as an educator, Virginia taught English at the high school level with the last 25 of those years in service to HCPSS at Howard High School. After her retirement in 1992, her passion for teaching led her to tutor many who desired to learn English as a second language.
