About Jeff 59, of Westminster, died Saturday, following a motorcycle accident in Grasonville.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John Warren and Jimmie Baldwin Merson. He was the husband of Denise Ann Bonneville Merson, his wife of 37 years.
He was a 1971 graduate of Howard High School, where he and his wife were high school sweethearts. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Loyola College.
He was a longtime employee of the Maryland State Police, working in traffic, criminal investigation, STATE team, child abuse unit, and ended his career in the drug task force, retiring in 1999. Following retirement he worked for the Attorney General's office in Baltimore and most recently as a private contractor for the federal government with SAVA and MSN. He was also an adjunct professor with Carroll Community College for six years, teaching criminal justice. He was a member of the Maryland Troopers Association.
He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, writing music and poems, and writing stories. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling to many cities throughout the United States with his wife. His most enjoyment came from spending time with his family, and in watching and coaching his children in sports, and more recently watching his grandchildren at their events, giving his grandchildren tractor rides, and vacationing at the beach.
Events A private funeral service and interment will be held in Linganore Cemetery in Unionville at the convenience of the family.

A celebration service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, July 6,
at Uniontown Bible Church,
4272 Watson Lane,
Union Bridge,


with the Rev. Tim Webster officiating.
