Favorite School Memory | The absolute fun of it all and the excellent education that was given to us. In addition to all that, the lasting friendships that were formed. |
About Me | I received my bachelor's and master's degree in education from Westfield State College in 1968 and 1974 respectively and began teaching at Kent Center School in Kent, CT in the fall of 1968. After a broad-ranging teaching career there I retired after 37 years in June of 2005. In August of 1970 I married Curt Mechare (Class of 1967). We have three adult children. Jason, 35, graduated from Oliver Wolcott in 1991 and served in the Navy during the Desert Storm Operations. He was married in September of 2006 to one of my former students, Heather Boyle of Kent (HVRHS Class of 1997). They live in town. He is a supervisor at Edward R. Hamilton Bookseller and she is an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Admissions at Marvelwood School in Kent. They are expecting their first child, a daughter, we are told, at the beginning of October, 2008. She will be our first grandchild. Ethan, 30, (Class of 1996) graduated from LIU's Friend World Program in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He has traveled the world and currently lives in LA. He is an aspiring documentary film maker, commercial and theatrical actor. He was most recently a national spokesperson for Sunsilk Hair Products. Catherine, 25 graduated from Housy in 2001 and received a B.A. degree from Keene State College in communications. She was the starting point guard for the Keene State women's basketball team for all four years of her eligibility. She is back in the area preparing for a move to northern New Hampshire. For the last twenty-five years I have been active in area youth sports programs. I served as president of our local Little League for 17 seasons, retiring last year and remain on the Board of Directors. I coached and officiated basketball for over twenty years, also serving on Canaan Youth Basketball's Board of Directors. I have served for over thirty-four years at various times in leadership roles on our local Board of Education, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Directors of D.M. Hunt Library, Board of Directors of the Falls Village Day Care and a host of other organizations. Since November of 2005, I have been First Selectman of the Town of Canaan (Falls Village) after serving as a member of the Board of Selectmen for the previous ten years, so I haven't actually retired! Curt hopes to retire within the next few years from his...(read more) |
