About	He was born June 2, 1931 in Houlton, the son of James & Astrid (Carstensen) Gardiner. John planted potatoes for over 60 years, worked in the woods, enjoyed horses and raising cattle. John had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing tricks. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris (Fitzpatrick) Gardiner of Hodgdon; 6 children: Christina Mitchell of Gardiner, Brian & Lori Gardiner of Hammond, Ron Gardiner & Diana Barnes of Calais, Tammy & Doug Griffin of Hammond, Johnna & Tom Gilley of N. Yarmouth and Cindy Gardiner & Ronnie Fitzpatrick of Houlton; 5 grandchildren: Wendy, Kelli, Scott Abby, Kathryn as well as several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Folsom of Houlton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John is predeceased by his parents, 2 grandchildren and 4 brothers.
