About	BOWERBANK AND HOULTON - James A. Chase, 70, husband of Donna (Farrington) Chase, passed away peacefully June 9, 2015, at his residence. He was born October 24, 1944, in Houlton, the son of Paul B. and Leta A. (Fanjoy) Chase. The simple things of nature had a message Jim understood. He enjoyed the outdoors, climbing Maine mountains, especially Mt. Katahdin, and hiking the Appalachian Trail in Maine. He had a great compassion for the many K-9's that were a large part of his life. He was mentally and physically tough, but also caring. Jim was dedicated to his most recent jobs as a Correctional Sergeant for the State of Maine and part-time police officer for the Town of Dover-Foxcroft. Jim was a member of the National Guard Co. B 152nd Artillery his junior and senior years in high school. He graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1963, and proudly served his county with the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany as an Intermediate Speed Radio Operator, using international Morse Code. After his tour in the Army he worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and General Electric in Connecticut. He was employed for a few years with the U.S. Border Patrol in Reo Grande City, TX, and Industrial Security at Spencer Press in Wells. His final career of some 25 years was with the State of Maine Department of Corrections, starting in Windham, and ending at Charleston Correctional Facility in Charleston. During that time he became a Sergeant, K-9 Team leader and Unarmed Self-Defense Instructor. He also worked part-time for the Town of Dover-Foxcroft as a Patrol Officer. Jim was a Master Mason Mosaic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 52 in Dover-Foxcroft. During his retirement years, Jim and his wife managed the Happy Tails Boarding Kennel for dogs in Bowerbank. In 2010 they went to Alaska and in 2011, Jim got a job in Security at McKinley Chalet Resort, in Alaska. In 2013, he worked at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, also in Security. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Donna of Bowerbank; a sister, Norma Taylor Chase and her husband, Don Seymour, of Farmington, NH; three sons, Wade Chase and his wife, Sonia, of Nebraska, Corey Chase and James Chase, both of Standish; a special niece, Sandra Taylor Bodwell and her husband, Charlie, of Farmington, NH; and several grandchildren.
