About John B. Dunn, 73,died at his home June 15, 2014 He was born Oct. 8, 1940 in Houlton, the son of Donald H. and Ella (Barrett) Dunn. John graduated from Houlton High School, the New England Institute of Applied arts and Sciences and the National Foundation of Funeral Service School of Management. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic and after a tour in Germany returned home to take part in the family businesses, where he eventually became President of the Donald Dunn Funeral Home and Vice president of the Dunn Furniture Company. He was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Visitation Church. He served and was a past president of several professional and civic organizations including The Northern Maine Planning Commission and the Maine Funeral Directors Association. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Houlton Elks Lodge and a past president of several Maine Horse Associations. John loved spending time at Drew's Lake, especially if it included his family and especially the grandchildren that he loved so dearly. His other passions were gardening, feeding the birds, cooking, soaking up the sun on his boat and fly fishing. The annual fly fishing trip to Grand Lake Stream with the "crew" was always an event he looked forward to. He is survived by two sons; Bart Dunn of Houlton and David Dunn and his wife Terri (the daughter he never had) of Houlton; Grandchildren Barrett, Lizzie, Brandon, Madison and Alexander Dunn. A brother Frank B. Dunn all of Houlton and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents John was predeceased by the love of his life, Sandra Howland Dunn, a brother David B. Dunn. He will be remembered by two special friends,k his bumper pool partner John Jenkins, his fly fishing buddy Barrett Peabody and his constand companion Gypsy Rose II.
