Enlisted in Army in 1951. Completd GED in 1955. Graduated w/class of 1956. 27 years active duty.
Rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Served two years in Viet Nam on helicopters. Awarded the Purple Heart, Two Bronze Stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Spent 3 years w/the Army ROTC Det at Mich Tech. Served on Military Attache duty w/the American Embassy in Africa. Stationed in France, Germany and various posts throughout the U.S. Married to wife Helen for 55years w/3 children, Jerry, Sandy and Douglas Jr. Presently reside in Florida but make it back to the U.P. from time to time.

Our Houghton High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done! Not everyone gets to come home for the holidays and we want our Houghton High School Military to know that they are loved and appreciated. All of us in Houghton are proud of our military alumni and want to thank them for risking their lives to protect our country!
