Robert "Rusty" Schontzler

Class of 1953

After graduation, I attended Boston University Junior College for a year.(I remember Mr. Weiss advising me that I would never make it in college) In the Fall of 1954, I was accepted as a freshman at Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio. I attended B-W for 4 years, and received my BA in June of 1958. I was active in many campus activities as well as a member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity. I had decided to enter the ministry and was accepted at Yale Divinity School in the class of 1959. I received the Masters of Divinity and Sacred Therology graduating in June of 1961 (See how wrong Mr. Weiss was!!).
I went on to serve 2 churches in Ohio until 1970, when my organizational skills led me to a career in the Blue Cross System and other health insurance positions around the country.
I am blessed with 3 grown children, a step-son who serves in a high level government position, and 8 grandchildren.
It has been a long road we have traveled since my days at Hope, but we have indeed been blessed. My wife & I are now retired in Prescott Valley, Arizona.
I will always remember my days in Providence and at Hope High School. Although I wasn't the best student there, my friendships, experiences in sports, and other activities were a solid foundation for the many successes in my lifetime.
